Special Session on

Intelligent systems, methods and techniques supporting sustainability of manufacturing processes

organized on the conference

The 3rd International Conference on Intelligent Systems in Production Engineering and Maintenance
ISPEM2020
24-27.11.2020, Liverpool John Moores University

Scope

Intelligent systems, methods and techniques (ISMT) are present more and more often in manufacturing companies. They support manufacturing processes planning, realization, monitoring and reporting as well as they support decision making process. Many advantages that ISMT bring can be identified. In the same time many challenges for companies appear. ISMT influence on various aspects concerning manufacturing areas and company operations. It is interesting to research how intelligent systems, methods and techniques can influence sustainability of manufacturing companies. ISMT can influence economic aspects. To develop and implement new solutions the companies must invest in technologies that will bring financial benefits. New technologies can influence social aspects by creating new work positions or by eliminating old professions. They might also support workers in performing their job or they might require new or improved knowledge and skills. Moreover, new technologies might influence positively environmental aspects what can be noticed by companies and what might additionally influence positively on financial aspects, by decreasing for example costs of energy use.
The Special Session addresses the many issues connected with intelligent systems, methods and techniques that might support sustainability of manufacturing companies, manufacturing lines or even single workstations, or can support sustainable development of the entire supply chain.
The aim of the Special Session is to provide an international forum for the dissemination and exchange of scientific information on design and application of modern technologies that can be applied to support sustainable development with identification of benefits which these technologies can bring in all areas of sustainability: economic, social and sentimental.
Topics of interest concern application and influence on sustainability the intelligent systems, methods and techniques and include but are not limited to:
• Vertical system integration
• Horizontal system integration
• Cyber Physical Systems
• Simulations of manufacturing systems
• Computer aided systems in enterprises
• Virtual reality
• Digital twins
• Autonomous robots
• Human-robot collaboration
• Decision making process based on stream data in real time
• Big data
• E-learning
• Internet of Things
• Value chain management
• Machine Learning
